Fabinho, the Liverpool defender, has been ruled out for up to six weeks after suffering an ankle injury during Al Ahli's match against Al Ittihad on Sunday.

The Brazilian international was taken off in the second half of the match and is now expected to miss both the Champions League and the remainder of the season.

The news comes as a major blow for Liverpool, who had already lost key players such as Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to injuries this season.

Despite the setback, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Fabinho's professionalism and determination despite his injury.

"I'm very proud of Fab [Fabinho]," Klopp said. "He's done really well so far, he's worked hard and I hope he'll be back soon."

Klopp added that Fabinho's injury will provide an opportunity for other defenders to step up and take on more responsibility.

"Hopefully we can have a few good performances from our defenders," Klopp said. "We need to play with a lot of confidence and make sure we're not too worried about losing one or two players."

Fabinho has made 12 appearances for Al Ahli this season, helping them reach the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations. He has also played for Brazil at international level, earning three caps.

However, Fabinho's absence will undoubtedly leave a gap in Liverpool's defense. The club will now look to find replacements for Fabinho and hope that they can perform well enough to keep the team competitive throughout the rest of the season.
